Hi friends,
This is a Thursday newsletter now (probably).
I’m using the ol’ noggin a lot at my new job at Flow Club, so I don’t have a lot of original thoughts to share this week. But I did want to share something someone else has written that I’ve been thinking about quite a bit.
Ricky (CEO of Flow Club) wrote a newsletter on social experiences as “bundles,” and identified “thin bundling” as the reason why digital social experiences often fall flat.
Here’s a graphic he made to illustrate this concept:
We already know that Zoom socials SUCK (sry if you like them), but this helps illustrate why. And that the opportunity to eat + drink is one heck of a motivator.
I especially loved the “opportunity for surprises” callout here. I think it’s what many of us really missed over the past two years of seclusion and what I’m especially craving now. This is a PSA to please do more weird shit in public!!!! You never know who’s needing a lil surprise.
I’m curious if this resonates with you, what activities you’d add, or if you have any benefits that are different than the ones listed above. As always, let me know in the comments!
Until next time,
Hannah
🎵 Song of the Week
Another oldie that literally makes me feel like I’m the main character in some romantic comedy. Listen to it on your next spring walk, U WILL SMILE.
📚 Things to Read
Do the terms NFTs, web 3, and blockchain make you break out in a cold sweat?? One of my coworkers shared this series of “explain like I’m 5” posts that break down each concept for all of us blockchain babies (Creator Economy)
Using “lol” has been cool, cringe, and is now just part of our lingo. Over the past two years I’ve fully embraced it once again LOL (Vice)
For a long time I’ve firmly believed that I’d never change my last name. This piece illuminated a different path. And it really made me excited to have two of the worst scrabble letters (X and Z) in my future three-named identity (The Cut)
What do you think of when you hear the words “sex after 70?” It’s not something we think or talk about very often, but I absolutely loved this deep dive by the NYT on the joys and challenges of sex after 70 that was so very tender and raw. Forget the other articles and read this one if you can! (NYT)
🍴 Things to Cook
High Protein Bread — did you know that cottage cheese + flour could make such an incredible bread?? I hate the name of this site, but the recipes are actually pretty 🔥 (SkinnyTaste)
Classic Egg Salad — idk the last time I had egg salad, but I made this to go along with the high protein bread and it was giving me major picnic vibes (Skinnytaste)
Kung Pao Tofu — when I find a new recipe site, you know I go all in. This one is so darn good and has a lot of veggies (Skinnytaste)
💪 Things to Try
I have been in a cocoon after being concussed by life last week (not an actual concussion, just many things happening at once that were disorienting), so I’d love to hear from YOU on what you’re trying these days.
Drop it in the comments. I dare you.
